SHARING STORIES

Penguin asked some of Australia’s favourite authors and illustrators to create original works of art on the theme of Sharing Stories – and to document the story behind the artwork’s creation, through videos, photographs and diary entries. Readers are invited to join the artists throughout the creative journey, and to share their own experiences and thoughts about the stories created.

Penguin Group (Australia) launched Sharing Stories, a special opportunity for readers of all ages to connect with authors and illustrators in conversation about imagination, inspiration and the art of storytelling.

Sharing Stories took place across all of Penguin Australia’s social media platforms. A new artwork was showcased each month, introducing another artist’s perspective on how sharing stories has shaped their life and work

ROLE

The project involved researching, commissioning and briefing artists, photographers and illustrators to create an original work of art on the theme of Sharing Stories. The artists also needed to document the story behind the artwork’s creation, through videos, photographs and diary entries.

To give a handmade touch, we used handwriting for the Sharing Stories branding. Due to the nature of art and the time that it takes, the project involved time and project management. I had the pleasure of working with the following artists: Anna Walker, Allison Colpoys, Marc Martin, Earl Carter, Keren Moran, Rob Palmer, Illustrations from Our Island (by the children of Gununa, with Alison Lester and Elizabeth Honey) & photos by Jane Goodwin/Alison Lester/Elizabeth Honey.

ANNA WALKER
I thought about stories shared in my childhood and what that meant to me. I could escape into a world of creatures that talked and strange things can happen.
In our first house when I was a child we had an overgrown garden and my grandmother told me I used to take books into the garden and make up stories.
In a way I feel like that is where my imagination began and where I still love to return.
